The LEMA Project

Learning from the margins

Social inclusion of highly marginalised young people in urban settings

The rationale of the LEMA project is the global concern for the challenges of marginalized young people. These challenges are manifested in different ways in relation to education, work and everyday life. In this collaboration between Denmark (Copenhagen), Sweden (Malmö) and Spain (Málaga) these factors are analyzed from the experiences of young people in that situation.

On this webapp you will find guidance and practical tips/advice, teaching materials and other inspirational resources for professionals, students, target groups and others involved in inclusive participatory pedagogy research and practice. Our aim is:

  • to enhance the professional identity of social educators by strengthening their capacity to manage young people in marginalized positions in urban areas, and
  • to explore social innovation actions with at-risk youth.

How we work

Urban Methods.   Developed as a part of the urban profile education for special and social educators at Copenhagen University College the Spaghetti Diagram is a quick and visual quantitative method to analyze human movement in urban spaces.

City mapping is a qualitative method to explore the perception of urban spaces.

Lifeline, Upturned Participation and Future Workshop are methods that have developed during research.

Participatory Social Planning (PSP) is a methodological approach for critical reflection, strategic solutions, and creative answers towards social inclusion of young, marginalized people.

Explore here how PSP is utilized in Denmark, Spain and Sweden.
