Besides working with article and reports the project consists of different activities, some with students and some with marginalized youth.

Learning from the margin

The main target participants are youth at-risk groups from each country. Other target participants include actions researchers and professionals from the partnership countries. The workshop can be described as an analysis workshop. Besides the analytical activity that the workshop provides, there has also been fieldtrips to at-risk housing areas and urban settings in the three countries.

The goal of this activity is that at-risk youth meet and share experiences and learn about conditions in other countries. This activity will result in an important analysis of the voiced and shared experiences of the at-risk youth from the three different countries and the three different urban realities.

The analysis will form part of the data collection and analysis used to develop the PSP model. Additionally, the participating youth will also take with them many new experiences and insights.

Urban awareness and international reflection

Within the project activities there has also been student exchange. Students have travelled within each country seeing universities and urban areas. The student has during they stay been given lectures, trying out methods on the web app and taking trips round.

Urban Action

The activity is based on marginalized young people’s joint analysis of being marginalized, and it will thus illustrate both similarities and differences across the national contexts. This output will contribute a substantial analysis of how barriers and opportunities are distributed in the lives of marginalized young people.

The joint analytic work is based on work in each national context. In each country, the researchers and the partner organizations will hold and prepare local workshops with the youth at risk, who will elaborate on their local conditions and social reality. These local analyses will form the basis for the transnational workshops with marginalized youth from the three participant countries and it is within this transnational workshop the joint analytic work will be developed.

It is rare that highly marginalized youth are brought together across nations to share their own analyses of their life conditions and opportunities and to offer their suggestions for appropriate change. This output is therefore extremely innovative and holds strong potential for direct impact and transferability.

The methods used in each contry are further described under the headline Participatory Social Planning
